Thanks to the giant arachnids on the balcony the geraniums have had to endure a hot, dry summer with only sprinkles from Mother Nature and no help at all from the arachnaphobic gardener. Here we are approaching first day of fall and they're still blooming! They seem to do better than the plants I do give my attention to.

Strep Throat

Not really, but it sounds like it. It is a purple streptocarpus plant. It's in the violet family but is supposedly easier to grow. I've had it a couple of weeks and it's produced two new flowers. I'm calling it a success. So far. :)

After 5 and 1/2 years I figured it was time to repot Elvy's violet. It was huge at one time but lately it's not been doing that well. Fresh soil, a good pruning, and a new pot will hopefully cheer it up.

Next garden will have purple allium planted in it.

Lantana

The first time I saw the lantana plant I was drawn to it because of it's vibrant Brady Bunch colour (orange and pink ... so 70s!) flowers. I bought one. I killed it. I tried again the following summer. That one lived through the summer but never flowered. Third time's the charm. Here's how two lantana plants look as of potting on this day. I hope that in a couple of months from now I can have another post here with my success story with a big colourful lantana.

PS. This plant is a perrenial and grows as an obnoxious weed-like plant in warmer climates like Texas.
